Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

When a strike is threatened by bribery, the leaders who do not give in to the bribes offered by a young prince have "jom," a quality similar to integrity that has manifested throughout Senegalese history -- as noted by a storyteller. A prince was once destroyed by "jom," but "jom" has never died out. When the servants in the community are urged to demand their natural rights in a show that a well-known singer puts on, they are encouraged to have "jom." Back in the factory again, the wive's "jom" has driven away the men who were weak and accepted bribes, suggesting that politics is more than surface deep among the Senegalese.
