Synopsis by Mark Deming

As the swaggering guitar hero with the New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders paved the way for the punk rock revolution in the early '70s with his bracing mixture of sloppy enthusiasm and bad-boy sneer. In his later group the Heartbreakers, Thunders forged an enduring reputation as one of rock's great outlaws, refusing to play by anyone's rule but his own. Eventually, longtime drug habit finally caught up with him and he died in the spring of 1991. Johnny Thunders: Live in Cold Blood captures Thunders and his band on-stage at New York City's Irving Plaza on March 13, 1982. The nine-song set includes "Born to Lose," "Sad Vacation," "Pipeline," "Too Much Junkie Business," and more.
