In Tatsumi Kumashiro's bloody remake of the 1960 Nobuo Nakagawa film of the same title, an unmarried couple produces a child shortly before both of them are murdered by their disgraced families. When their daughter grows into adulthood, she takes gory revenge on the killers. For her acts of savagery, she is condemned to Hell, a surrealistic multilayered domain replete with tortures both physical and mental. Kumashiro's outrageous view of the afterlife marries Buddhist concepts to explicit sex and violence, including cannibalism, whippings, impalement, and dismemberment. Mieko Harada stars in this shocking horror film with Kyoko Kishida, Kunie Tanaka, and Renji Ishibashi.
