Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This highly acclaimed documentary looks at the 1,000 days of President John Kennedy's administration, from 1961-1963, before it was cut short by an assassin's bullet. The program is hosted by ABC anchorman Peter Jennings, who looks beneath the romanticized surface of "Camelot" to investigate the events and people who shaped the times. The New Frontier, the Cuban missile crisis, the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty of 1963, the Bay of Pigs invasion, civil rights, and space exploration are among the topics. Archival film footage and personal remembrances of journalists, White House aides, and others round out the picture of the charismatic president.
