The two men referenced in the title, of course, are John Adams and Thomas Jefferson - the second and third presidents of the United States of America, respectively - who not only shared a role in writing the early history of the U.S., but partook in a deep, meaningful and long-abiding friendship with one another. The stage play Jefferson & Adams dramatizes the tale of that camaraderie; a film of the play appears in this release. Constructed almost exclusively from letters that passed between Jefferson, John Adams and the latter's wife, Abigail Adams, the narrative depicts the various temporary separations and emotional reunions of the men's friendship as the years passed, in addition to their views on the evolution of the new country, political views that alternately waxed synonymous and divergent from one another, and their feelings about personal relationships with wives, friends and various loved ones.
