Synopsis by Alice Day

Australia's jazz scene over the past 50 years is covered in Jazz Odyssey: Beyond El Rocco, an award-winning documentary filmed in the film noir style. The viewer will visit the Bohemian clubs of the '50s in Sydney and the regions where funk sounds and more modern music are the order of the day. Zoot Finster hosts this look at jazz down under, and gives a history of Australia's contributions to the genre. Players of the past are profiled, and there are interviews with modern-day luminaries such as Mike Nock, Bruce Cale, Bernie McGann, Joe Lane, Sandy Evans, and others.
