Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

An incident in Peru sparked the filming of this documentary. As in many Latin American countries, native Indians were given land grants and have a certain amount of autonomy over the region in which they live. In the village of Huayanay, the native Peruvians had killed a man for violating their women and for thievery. When they brought his body into town, a judge ordered the entire village to be arrested for the murder -- and 11 arrests were actually made. Once the 11 were in prison, public outcry got them released -- but not for long. Soon the judge put them back in jail. This documentary was made to publicize their imprisonment and draw attention to the case.
