Synopsis
Three-part history of the rise and spread of Islam, from the prophet Muhammad's birth in 570 to the height of the Ottoman Empire under Suleyman the Magnificant in the 16th century. The documentary uses a number of atmospheric re-creations (some filmed in Iran---the first U.S. production to be allowed to do so since the Khomeini revolution of 1979).
