Synopsis by Mark Deming
Iron Maiden was formed in 1975, and by 1981 they were one of the world's premier heavy-metal bands, a position they've maintained ever since thanks to a series of benchmark albums and the group's always potent live show. Iron Maiden: The Early Days, Vol. 1 is an exhaustive home-video collection which gathers together a treasure trove of rare and out-of-print material documenting the group's first few year of dominating the British (and later the international) metal scene. Included is the 1981 live show at the Rainbow video, 1982's Live at Hammersmith - The Beast on the Road, footage from the group's appearance at the 1983 Dortmund Rock & Pop Festival, previously unseen video footage of the band playing a club gig in 1980, rare music videos, and television appearances, and much more.
