Synopsis by Mark Deming

Veteran Iranian director Parviz Kimiavi marked his return to his native land after a sojourn in France with this tribute to classic Persian literature. Sohrab (Behzad Khodaveysi) is studying the work of five classic Persian poets for an book he is preparing, but he finds himself in constant struggle with the literary censor in Tehran. One day, the five long-dead poets reappear in human form, reciting their verses while the authorities try to decide what the correct interpretation of their work should be. Iran Is My Homeland blends mild satire of Iran's political climate under Islamic rule with a sincere appreciation of the literature of his nation's ancestors.
