Synopsis by Mark Deming

A stranger in town becomes obsessed with a woman very different from himself in this drama. Amadou (Issaka Sawadogo) has fled the African nation of his birth and washes up on the shore of a coastal village in Belgium; he ends up on a nude beach, where a helpful and entirely naked woman comes to his aid. Amadou makes his way to Brussels, where he and a handful of other illegal aliens work long hours for an unscrupulous building contractor, and when he isn't working, Amadou looks after his sick friend Sioka (Ken N'Diaye), who lives in an abandoned building provided by their boss. Amadou loses his job after a police raid on the building site, and while he manages to avoid capture, he's unsure how he'll support himself and his friend when he happens to meet Agnes (Stefania Rocca), a pretty and helpful businesswoman. Amadou is fascinated by Agnes and is soon following her around the city, though it's hard to say if he's infatuated or sees her as an economic prospect. L'envahisseur (aka The Invader) was the first feature film from director Nicolas Provost.
