Synopsis by Sean Hurley

This four-volume series from PBS Home Video explores the millions upon millions of unseen neighbors who share our homes and even our bodies: microbes. Scientists explain why we can't live without microbes even though they often make us sick. As the first life form on Earth, the microbe was -- and continues to be -- the basis of the Earth's food chain, in addition to being responsible for the production of the majority of our planet's oxygen. This series examines the accepted scientific notion that all life on Earth depends on these tiny creatures. In Intimate Strangers: Unseen Life on Earth, Vol. 4 -- Creatures of the Future, scientists detail the latest advances in our understanding of how this unseen world operates. From these discoveries it is hoped that safer, more effective techniques for growing food, maintaining health, and creating beneficial enzymes will be achieved.
