Synopsis by Mark Deming
Socially conscious folk rock duo the Indigo Girls were touring behind the success of their self-titled major-label debut when they returned to their hometown of Athens, GA, in 1990 for a special sold-out show at the intimate Uptown Lounge. The concert was captured on videotape, and Indigo Girls: Live at the Uptown Lounge presents a dozen songs from that show. Michael Stipe makes a guest appearance on the song "Kid Fears"; other selections include "Closer to Fine," "Strange Fire," "Welcome Me," and covers of "All Along the Watchtower" and "Get Together."
