Synopsis by Janiss Garza

The story to this Tom Mix feature is no longer politically correct: the Indians are most decidedly bad guys, and wild buffaloes -- which were being hunted into extinction at the time -- are shown being slaughtered. Still, the Selig studios did their best to authentically recreate the old West of the gold rush days. Tom Mingle (Mix) is a pony express rider who is in love with Sally Madison (Bessie Eyton), the daughter of a settler who has gone to California in search of gold. Although Colonel Madison has struck it rich, his wife is very ill and in a letter he asks that Sally come join them. So Sally, Mingle, and a group of settlers head out to California. But their camp is attacked by Indians and all are killed except for Sally and Mingle, who are taken prisoner. Chief Swift Wind (Wheeler Oakman) is attracted to Sally, while his sister, Starlight (Red Wing), has fallen for Mingle. The captives manage to escape and join up with a group of buffalo hunters. The Indians follow in pursuit and begin wiping out the hunters. Sally risks her life to find another group of hunters who come to their aid. The Indian Chief dies in the battle, but Starlight saves the white people. Sally and Mingle finally make it to California's gold country, where Colonel Madison gives their betrothal his blessing.
