Even in the so-called "Worker's Paradise" of the Soviet Union, it occasionally happens that teen-aged children are better off living in a state-run foster home than with their parents, or in whatever other situation they may have found themselves. This drama explores the experiences of one of these children, the sixteen-year-old girl Marie. She has an abusive, drunken father whom she still loves, and she looks likely to repeat her family's history in the boyfriend she chooses, who is something of a young tough.
