Synopsis by Ryan Shriver

American-born filmmaker Suha Araj briefly examines a cross-section of Palestinians and their senses of personal and national identities in her 2003 short film entitled I Am Palestine. With participants ranging from scientists to students to entertainment professionals, Araj began her project in order to discuss issues of cultural pride with Palestinians without the threat of violence. The participants reflect on their cultural heritage and identity with a nation that doesn't currently exist and is threatened with permanent extinction due to the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict. As the Palestinians go about their daily business, they are forced to deal with distinctive discrimination and hostility at the hands of the Israeli police and military that man the checkpoints between Israel and the other occupied territories in which the Palestinians work and live.
