Synopsis by Janiss Garza

This English-made version of the famed tale by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle doesn't even come close to the definitive 1939 talkie starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce -- for one thing, there are far too many title cards -- but it still has its moments, mostly involving moody shots of the moors. It sticks close to Doyle's story -- a ghostly hound has haunted Baskerville Hall for generations, and Sir Henry Baskerville (Rex MacDougall) calls on Sherlock Holmes (Eille Norwood) to look into the matter. Holmes stays in London and sends Dr. Watson (Hubert Willis) out to investigate in person. A distant relative who wants to inherit the estate is the culprit, but before his identity is discovered, a number of truly delicious plot complications ensue -- some of which are created by Holmes himself. This mystery came out in the States not long after John Barrymore starred as Sherlock Holmes in the film based on William Gillette's play.
