Synopsis by Mark Deming

One family's crises serve as a metaphor for the many troubles facing Greece in this drama. Gena (Ioanna Tsirigouli) is a troubled woman whose emotional instability makes it hard for her to hold on to a job and look after her children. Gena has just given birth to another son, and her brother Nikitas (Ieronymos Kaletsanos), a college professor, has decided she's not capable of handing the additional responsibility. Nikitas wants to adopt the baby and raise him with his daughter Anna (Youla Boudali), which angers Gena and causes discord among the other members of the family. Meanwhile, her oldest son Stergios (Thanos Samaras) struggles with depression and guilt, his brother Thanos (Hristos Passalis) has just returned to his home town after a long absence, and Antonis (Errikos Litsis) is caught up in the political protests that are taking place all over Thessaloniki. Hora Proelefsis (aka Homeland) was the first feature film from director and co-screenwriter Syllas Tzoumerkas.
