Madge Dow (Madge Evans) lives in an orphanage across the street from a big house. She fantasizes that her mother lives there, and one day she decides to actually enter the house. So, accompanied by her freckled friend Spotty (Michael J. Hanlon), she goes there, but instead of a mother she finds nasty misanthrope Major Amesworth (W. T. Carleton). Nevertheless she takes him out in his wheelchair, which rolls down the hill, out of control. The major is saved by Dick Washburn (Hugh Thompson), a young doctor who ministers to the old man's ailments. Dick happens to be engaged to Madge's Good Samaritan Letty (Anna Lehr), and along the way he finds out that Major Amesworth is his father. The family is reunited, and Madge finds a home, and mother, with Letty.
