Synopsis by Betsy Boyd

Part of the History's Turning Points series, which explores pivotal moments in world history, History's Turning Points: The Atomic Bomb focuses on the World War II bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On August 6, 1945, President Harry S. Truman gave the go-ahead for soldiers to drop the first atomic bombs ever used on these Japanese targets. Both cities were destroyed. This first dramatic use of atomic power would change the politics of warfare forever and force nations farther apart. The program uses on-location dramatizations to tell the story.
