Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This program is part of a series that profiles some of the colorful figures whose actions changed the course of history. This episode looks at the life of T.E. Lawrence, the Englishman who became known as Lawrence of Arabia. The scholarly and refined author of The Seven Pillars of Wisdom found himself in the middle of the Arab revolt. To the surprise of his own military superiors, he became a freedom fighter for the Arab cause of independence. His exploits in the desert were chronicled by Lowell Thomas, and Lawrence became reluctantly famous. Archival film footage, photographs, journals, reenactments, and scholarly commentary tell the poignant story of this man caught between two worlds.
