Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

The history of warfare is brought to life in this five-part series from the History Channel. Experts from the Royal Armories in London share their knowledge on the construction and use of the weapons that were used in battle from ancient times in Rome, Greece, and Northern Europe, through the development of modern warfare. This episode examines two of the simplest and most effective weapons known to man -- the sling shot and the spear. In the Biblical story, David defeated the dreaded Goliath with his humble sling shot. From ancient to modern times, soldiers have used the sling and the spear to defeat their enemies. Archival weapons, illustrations, reenactments, and commentary by historians are used to tell the story of the deadly force of slings and spears.
