Synopsis by Elizabeth Smith

Benito Mussolini served as Italy's Prime Minister from 1922 until 1943. As a passionate and well-read young man, Mussolini discovered he could easily impress and stir up crowds of people with his strong oratory style. As this video indicates, once he rose to power as a fascist dictator, the world realized it would have to monitor his activities carefully, especially once he became involved with Adolf Hitler after initially rebuffing the Fuhrer's overtures for support. When Mussolini later discovered his people were losing belief in his efforts on their behalf, he delayed entering World War II until France started to fall in 1940. High school students and young adults are among those targeted as the audience for this presentation about this troubled man's attempts to influence the world political order.
