Conductor Herbert von Karajan (1908-89) held a unique historical position, as one of the first maestros to begin actively filming his work for television and the movies. His work in both mediums earned tremendous critical acclaim, and he built a reputation for perfectionism. As a biographical overview of Von Karajan's life, this program combines elements including archival interviews with the conductor, films of his performances, and discussions with his colleagues and collaborators.
