The legendary orchestra leader Herbert Von Karajan led the Berlin Philharmonic for thirty-four years, his tenure ended only by his death in 1989, and in 1984 Karajan and the Philharmonic returned to some of the major works in their repertoire, to be digitally recorded with a camera crew in tow.
