Produced by the Italian Ambrosio company, Her Only Son manages to squeeze its entire narrative into a slim two reels. The heroine, a careworn Italian woman, works her fingers to the bone so as to provide an expensive education for her son. He returns the favor by inviting her to move in with him and his new bride. Unfortunately, the mother takes an instant dislike to the wife, accusing her of infidelity on the basis of circumstantial evidence. Upon realizing that she's been mistaken, the mother contritely bids farewell to her son and daughter-in-law and withdraws from their lives to avoid causing additional trouble. The film's success rests with the vivid performance of the uncredited actress playing the mother.
