Synopsis by Clarke Fountain

The Danish producer and director of this slightly experimental film for children had been a child behavior specialist before taking up filmmaking. Curiously, this background seems to have made the film more appealing to adults, and caused her some difficulty in obtaining funding from the Danish Children's Film Council. All the dialogue comes from the actor's improvisations in rehearsal. Isolated in the Swedish countryside, the families of the story experience the joys and difficulties of their mutual dependency, as well as sibling rivalry, accidental injuries, and the hubbub and excitement (for the children) of trips to the city and to a wildlife reservation.
