Synopsis by Hal Erickson

No relation to the later Clint Eastwood vehicle of the same name, 1955's Heartbreak Ridge is a French combat documentary. The Korean conflict is seen through the eyes of a young French lieutenant, who is part of the United Nations peace-keeping forces. Actual war footage culled from the decisive battle of Crevecoeur (Heartbreak Ridge) is deftly worked into the proceedings. The audience is informed that two combat photographers were killed during this battle, and one can see why and how. Heartbreak Ridge serves to remind viewers that America was not the only participant in the Korean "police action."
