Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Heart of the Wilds was the second film version of the Edgar Selwyn stage play Pierre of the Plains, which would be remade several more times under a variety of titles over the next thirty years. The character of Pierre was either written out or renamed, if contemporary accounts can be trusted. At any rate, this version concentrates on the romance between Canadian Mountie sergeant Tom Flaherty (Thomas Meighan) and Jane Galbraith (Elsie Ferguson), the daughter of trading-post proprietor Peter Galbraith (Joseph Smiley). Tom and Jane's relationship is sorely strained when Tom is forced to track down Jane's brother Val (Matt Moore) for the murder of an Indian guide. Stoically supervising the whole dramatic canvas is Native American Gray Cloud, played by Sidney D'Albrook).
