Synopsis by Elizabeth Smith
During World War II, moviegoers often saw newsreels that updated them on the war's latest battles, key military figures, and efforts to end the bloodshed. Volume four of this four-part series contains newsreel footage about the Battle of Britain, Hitler's dangerous plans, and the Battle at Guadalcanal. Other segments recall the events at Pearl Harbor, Hiroshima, and Iwo Jima. General Patton's heroic leadership, Germany's final surrender, and the Nuremberg Trials are also covered. The footage contained in this volume was compiled from the Hearst News Reel Archives. The other three titles in this series are Headline Stories of the Century: America in Sports, Headline Stories of the Century: America in the News, and Headline Stories of the Century: American Nostalgia.
