En route to his next assignment, Paladin is bushwacked, beaten, and stripped of everything he owns. Upon recovering, he wanders into the ranch owned by the beautiful--and desperately lonely--Maggie O'Bannion (Marion Marshall) and talks himself into a job as all-purpose ranch hand. As the days pass, Paladin realizes that Maggie is being systematically robbed by her crooked foreman, and tries to tell her so. But Maggie seems less interested in the future of her ranch than in her future with the enigmatic Paladin.
