Worried that her husband Oliver (Eddie Albert) is working himself into a nervous breakdown, Lisa (Eva Gabor) suggests that they go on a picnic. Once in the great outdoors, Oliver strikes up an acquaintance with a sprightly old codger named Ira Hatch (Percy Helton), with whom he carries on several conversations in the days to follow. Trouble is, everyone in Hooterville insists that Ira Hatch has been dead for 20 years -- and soon, everyone in Hooterville is convinced that Oliver is a few bricks shy of a full load.
