Synopsis by Rose of Sharon Winter

This program is part of a series that features the lives and careers of some of the greatest figures in sports history. This episode, hosted by Jayne Kennedy, profiles basketball star Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Born Lewis Alcindor in New York, the All Star player changed his name in the 1970s, to reflect his conversion to Islam. After playing for U.C.L.A., where many considered him the greatest college player of all time, Jabbar went on to great success in professional basketball. He began his career with the Milwaukee Bucks and finished with the Los Angeles Lakers. MVP awards and NBA championship titles were his steady fare, as well as induction into the Hall of Fame. Archival film clips, photographs, and interviews with fellow players, coaches, fans, friends, and family tell the story of this sports legend.
