This four-part PBS documentary series chronicled the means in which mankind has harnessed and utilized nature to forge a mighty industrial nation. Episode one, "A Tale of Two Rivers," detailed the taming of the Mississippi and the Colorado. Episode two, "Electric Nation," charted the ongoing efforts to wire America from coast to coast. Episode three, "Bridging New York," showed how most of the bridges in the nation's biggest metropolis were the handiwork of one individual. And in episode four, "The Big Dig," the viewer was given a thorough history of Boston's controversial Central Artery highway project.
