Synopsis by Nathan Southern
The "Goisern" in question is of course Euro-rock composer/performer Hubert von Goisern of the Austrian ensemble Die Alpinkatzen. That artist launched one of his most unusual and individualistic feats with his Linz Europe Tour 2007-9, where he and his band converted a ship's deck into a concert stage and sailed down the Danube from Linz, Austria to the entrance to the Black Sea, accompanied by a barracks ship and tug boat. En route, the outfit began making routine stops at a series of ports and giving impromptu concerts with various local acts - the respective "stars" of each region. The events found musicians congregating in a series of locales, such as the village square and the bowels of the ship, and performing mini-concerts in celebration of their respective national and sociocultural identities. Documentarists Robert Lakatos, Harald Aue and Markus Wogrolly teamed up to depict these events on this five-part miniseries, screened on European channels ORF 2, 3SAT and BR Fernsehen.
