Synopsis by Nathan Southern
This earnest docudrama travels back to 1948, and follows the events leading up to the Olympic competition of two extraordinary athletes: Oxford alumnus Richard 'Dickie' Burnell (Sam Hoare) and working-class boatbuilder's son Bert Bushnell (Matt Smith). These two eager young men find themselves thrown together as partners in a double-sculling event, a mere six weeks before the big games - and must overcome their vastly different socioeconomic backgrounds. The supporting cast includes Geoffrey Palmer and James Frain.
