Synopsis by Hal Erickson

A better-than-usual British offering from 1920, General Post was adapted from a play by J. E. Howard Terry. Like many dramas of its period, the story is predicated upon class consciousness. Aristocratic Betty Broughton (Joyce Dearsley) is in love with handsome commoner Edward Smith (portrayed by the aptly named R. Henderson Bland). Naturally, Betty's family vehemently opposes the romance. All this changes when Edward goes off to WW I and wins the Victoria Cross for courage under fire. The American marketability of General Post was hampered by the film's lack of "star names."
