Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka
In this surreal, symbolic view of up-and-coming Austrians in the "modern" world, director Edwin Zbonek and writer Christian Herbst focus on the formation of a group of such young people, gathering to play cards, drink, and joke. But what occurs outside of this gathering -- marriages, suicides, rapes -- appears to be incidental, with the group's activities the true center of attention. Only at the end does one member of the group try to actually "walk" into real life, with a dawning awareness that the group's raison d'ĂȘtre -- if there is one -- is meaningless.
