Synopsis by Janiss Garza

This society drama was originally a play written by Sir Arthur Wing Pinero in the days when the word "gay" could refer to a frivolous but highly heterosexual young man. It was filmed in Britain in 1917, then remade in the States two and a half years later with Tom Moore in the title role. The Marquess of Quex has a string of conquests behind him, but the day finally comes when he falls in love with Muriel Eden, an innocent young girl (Gloria Hope). His latest amour, the Duchess of Strood (Naomi Childers) is puzzled when, at a house party, he refuses her offer to come up to her room. Sophie Fullgarney, a manicurist devoted to Muriel (Hazel Daly), believes that Lord Quex will ruin the girl's life and threatens him, but Quex convinces her that he is sincere in his affection for Muriel. He discovers that Sophie previously thought that the right man for Muriel was a certain Captain Bastling (Philo McCullough), who ironically has a far worse reputation than Quex. Now that Sophie is won over to Quex, she vamps the Captain until he proves his true nature. As a result, Lord Quex has no problem winning the girl of his heart.
