Synopsis by Mark Deming

Two people who have trouble relating to other people stumble into a relationship in this offbeat romantic comedy-drama from filmmaker Sergio Martin Mazza. Mario (Gustavo Almada) is a man who makes his living working with birds -- he raises and trains roosters for cockfighting, and sometimes helps farmers who have are having trouble raising poultry for sale. Mario usually works in isolation and doesn't always respond well to others, but he wonders if that might be changing when he's asked to pay a visit to Julia (Silvia Zerbini), an older woman who has been taking care of the family farm on her own since the death of her husband and children. Julia has buried herself in work and faith to numb her sense of loss, but when she meets Mario they bond over a shared sense of isolation. However, their troubles in dealing with other people are at once something they share and an obstacle to a budding relationship as they struggle to understand one another and find common ground. Gallero (aka Gamecock Breeder) was an official selection at the 2009 Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
