Miaka and Yui are in the National Library when an image of a phoenix draws them into a restricted section where a book falls to their feet. The book is called "The Book of the Universe of the Four Gods," and as soon as the two teenage girls begin to read the first page, they are transported to the world within the book, a universe based on feudal China in which Miaka is suddenly revered by the people as the Priestess of Suzaku, as if their arrival was expected. Love, magic, and fantasy all collide in this 52-episode series. Could it really be the destiny of two girls from Japan to be the salvation of a people who live an entire universe away?
