Synopsis by Hal Erickson

The debut episode of Full House takes place in the San Francisco home of the Tanner family. TV sportscaster Danny Tanner (Bob Saget) has been a widower for three months now, doing his best to raise his daughters D.J. (Candace Cameron), Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin) and Michelle (Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen) with the help of his mother Claire (here played by Alice Hirson, before Doris Roberts took over the role). Now Claire is preparing to leave, and Danny must face the daunting prospect of single parenthood. But help is on the way in the form of Danny's musician brother-in-law Jesse (John Stamos) and his best friend, standup comic Joey (David Coulier). Despite this sudden surfeit of uncles (both real and spiritual), eldest daughter D.J. is unhappy--and to show her discomfort, she moves out of the house and into the family garage. At this early point the proceedings, Jesse's last name is still Cochran: he wouldn't revert to his ancestral moniker Katsopolis for some time to come).
