Synopsis by Mark Deming

Eleven different facets of life in Brazil's gay and lesbian community are examined in this omnibus feature coordinated by producer Kristian Petersen. Like the earlier entries in this series -- Fucking Different, Fucking Different New York and Fucking Different Tel Aviv -- Fucking Different Sao Paulo features a handful of original short films with GLBT themes, but with a twist, as gay men direct the films about lesbians and vice versa. A romance is sparked by surprising circumstances in Flaca by Herman Barck. In After Lunch, Rodrigo Diaz Diaz and Elzemann Neves focuses on two friends whose secrets feelings for one another are awakened. Joana Galvão and Monica Palazzo ambitiously explore three stories separated by centuries but linked by a single work of art in Trilogy: 1718, 1972, 2009. Joana Galvão also tells the story of a lad who is enticed by something unfamiliar in A Look. House by Luiz René Guerra visualizes the memories of two lovers. Max Julien's Round concerns a man who likes to watch and falls in with a pair of professional lesbian exhibitionists. God of the Impossible by Luciana Lemos concerns a devout gay couple who form their own church after being rejected by the one they've attended. Silvia Lourenço and Sabrina Greve directed Under The Skin, in which a young man learns to roll with life's changes when his big secret is discovered by others. Ricky Mastro directed Happily Ever After, about a same-sex couple who've made a long-term marriage work. And Gustavo Vinagre follows the adventures of an all-female rock & roll band in Dykeland. Fucking Different Sao Paulo was an official selection at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival.
