Synopsis by Andrea LeVasseur

Frontline investigates the tricky relationships of the FBI's Chinese counterintelligence operations in From China With Love. This program looks specifically at the case of Katrina Leung, an FBI agent in China with the code name "Parlor Maid." She worked with special agent J.J. Smith for over two decades until the government discovered the two were secretly engaged in a love affair. Found in possession of secret documents, both Smith and Leung have pled not guilty to charges of gross negligence. The information was first revealed through FBI agent William Cleveland, who was also engaged in a love affair with Leung. This complex drama has led the FBI to doubt the last 20 years of U.S. intelligence information on China. Includes an interview with J.J. Smith's attorney Brian Sun and FBI special agent Edward Appel. Frontline: From China With Love first aired on PBS in January of 2004.
