Synopsis by Hal Erickson

Combining dramatized reenactments with contemporary paintings, photographs, letters, and journalistic dispatches, the massive three-part Australian historical series, Frontier sought to shed revisionist light on the 150-year war between Australia's white settlers and the Aborigines. Covering a period from 1788 to 1938 (the year that a truce was finally drawn up), the series tended to side with the natives against the usurping whites (for every settler who died, ten Aborigines also were killed), though the excesses and atrocities on both sides of the argument were fully covered. A stellar cast enacted the major historical figures, while the contemporary accounts were read by a veritable battalion of top voice-over talent. Frontier was telecast by Australia's ABC network in 1997.
