Synopsis
"From Shtetl to Swing," hosted by Harvey Fierstein, traces the Jewish-immigrant influence on 20th-century American pop music. Among performers seen in clips: Al Jolson; Fanny Brice; Eddie Cantor; Sophie Tucker; Louis Armstrong; Judy Garland; Cab Calloway; Molly Picon; and the Marx Brothers. The finale includes scenes of Benny Goodman's celebrated 1938 Carnegie Hall concert.
