Synopsis by Mark Deming

An abandoned schoolhouse holds different meanings and associations for two groups of people in this independent feature from South Korea. Thee young men on the run after a robbery hide in the old schoolhouse, where they reflect on their troubled childhoods. Later, three women who once attended the school return to it, recalling the place as it was years ago. Finally, members of the two groups meet. This debut feature from director Kim Sion (whose title literally translates as "Summer, Rain, Lantern") was shown in competition at the 1999 Rotterdam Film Festival.
