Synopsis by Betsy Boyd
Banks' Florilegium: The Flowering of the Pacific stops in the exotic places where celebrated botanist Joseph Banks traveled with Captain James Cook during Cook's late-18th century circumnavigation of the world. On their long journey, Banks discovered and classified more than 700 plant species. The documentary, narrated by Robert Hughes, transports viewers to such beautiful locales as Java, Brazil, Madeira, New Zealand, and Australia. The program also presents a set of full-color engravings of the men's discoveries.
