Synopsis by Eleanor Mannikka

In this humanistic yet also moralizing family film from Outer Mongolia, a wife has supported her husband through his studies in engineering by working in a brick factory and has had her hands full with raising five children as well. When the husband finally graduates, he falls in love with another woman and leaves his wife and family. That act breaks the spirit of his wife, and she dies -- leaving the oldest child, a daughter, to care for her four younger brothers. When the absent father shows up one day to tell his daughter that maybe some of the children should go to a foster home, she says the five of them are like fingers on same hand and will stay together. Later on, she meets a journalism student who writes about her courage, and love blossoms -- with the prospects of marriage providing a solution to her hard life.
