Synopsis by Hans J. Wollstein

Based on a 1921 story by George Owen Baxter (alias Frederick Faust and Max Brand), this fine Tom Mix Western featured the era's greatest cowboy star as a peace-loving blacksmith provoked into fighting the town bully (Mix regular Sid Jordan). Believing that he has killed his opponent, Mix heads for the hills. Along the way, he rescues lovely Ann Withero (Patsy Ruth Miller) from a runaway team, and Ann's jealous suitor, Charles Merchant (Gerald Pring) offers a $5,000 reward for his capture, dead or alive -- preferably dead. With typical dash, Mix manages to clear his good name and is welcomed back to town by Ann, who has jilted the nasty Merchant. A discovery of Russian star Alla Nazimova, 18-year-old Patsy Ruth Miller would go on to play Esmeralda to Lon Chaney's title character in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1923).
